Welcome to Miss Hyland’s P5 class!

Our third P5 topic is ‘Flight’. Throughout this topic we will be focusing on flights throughout nature and time. There are lots of exciting activities planned for our topic. We will be designing and making parachutes, carrying out investigations and exploring many important people who have shaped the world of flight!

Here are some activities that you may wish to try at home to support your child’s learning at school.

• Go to the library and look for books about birds and flight throughout time.
• Complete a bird watch over the month of January.
• Talk to your child about the various birds in our locality.
• Explore with your child, what makes a bird a bird?
• Compare two exotic birds.
• Create and provide a bird feeder for your garden.
• Share stories/photographs of when you or your family were on an aeroplane.
• Choose a favourite bird and write a short comic strip on it.
• Talk to your child about how we travelled around the world before and after planes were invented.
• If you have any materials, create a model of something that flies.
